What Does Christmas Mean To Me? đźŽ…

Christmas is a time of joy, a time to get together as a family and enjoy life and each other as you should every day. It’s a time when people show thanks with gifts, kind words, and loving memories. I cherish moments like this because not everyone has a roof over their head, clothes on their back, and someone to call “family”. Getting older, I realized the importance of “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

I was a teacher, where Christmas meant the most to the children. I love children, so this was a great learning experience for us both. We went around the school for periods of time to tell other teachers, staff, and students “You matter.” Sometimes a person needs to hear that in order to get through their day, but hearing it from a 2-year-old is the most uplifting thing. It left a mark on parents, staff, and children as they started to understand “Sharing is caring,” while implementing that into the holiday spirit.

What humbled me the most was being given Christmas toys in a big plastic bag, unwrapped, while watching another family member unwrap gifts, was I sad at the moment? Yes, the meaning of Christmas was perceived differently at the 8yr old moment, but those same gifts, I gave to children who were in my predicament without knowing the true meaning of Christmas, and I’ll never forget the joy on that person’s face. So no, Christmas isn’t just about gifts, it’s about love, spreading joy for once, and making sure that you’ve done something yourself to touch someone in a positive way. Since then, I’ve been doing sock and coat drives as a way to give back, because Christmas isn’t just for me. What about those who are homeless? Not every homeless person places themselves in that predicament. As a smart girl, I vow to continue spreading joy, not just on Christmas, but every day. 💜
