How do you practice self-care?

Self-care doesn’t just come from soap and water to your body, or stepping into church thinking that your past is forgiven. These are things that should be regularly done. Self-care is very important to me, and it starts within myself. Self-care makes me feel important. When I say that, I mean I’m focusing on myself, putting myself before anyone else. Putting my neccessities before my wants. Making sure that I am mentally stable to be able to get through anything.

I start my day off with a daily call from my pastor, or an inspirational quote from the ministry group chat. Each day we have inspiring quotes to remind us we are here for a reason, we are have a purpose in life, and to walk in that light. We may go through trials and tribulations, but we won’t stay in that shadow, WE WALK THROUGH IT. I then repeat affirmations that I know will get me through the day, “Can’t” doesn’t exist in my vocabulary, especially coming from a disabled person. See the thing is, when you are disabled people think you are incapable, and that’s never the case. You can, and you will.

Mentally self-care can be a bit too much especially when you have a lot going on yourself, but you matter! Ask yourself the way you’re going out for others, do they do the same for you? Mental ties in with emotions, you’re too busy worried about what the next person is doing instead of focusing on yourself, and that’s where arguments and disagreements happens. Since I’ve slowly distanced away from what I felt wasn’t right for me, I’ve been accomplishing things I never thought I would. Check this out!

I was featured in VoyageBaltimore’s magazine!

Now health wise, my brother opxra never lets me eat anything that will endanger my health in the long run. He’s who inspired me to change my diet, you feel a lot better knowing you have fruits and vegetables along with water in you. It is an amazing feeling. Your body feels cleansed of everything right down to your soul. Self-care comes in many aspects, it all depends on how you choose to accept it. How do you handle self care? (Reply below)
