High School Days 🫶🏾💜

What was your favorite subject in school?

Ya’ll know I love to talk, and have a story for everything! Originally, during highschool, I studied sociology as my major. Not because the football coach was handsome, but because I wanted to study people, cultures, and why we do the things we do. Now sociology is the development, structure, and function of the human society. I was a very social person, I socialized so much I did it in different languages, I felt that those who didn’t speak the same language felt as though no one understood them, which is typical in highschool. I enjoyed books, but for some reason, I loved studying people.

Studying people actually helped me to study myself. For instance, we discussed the posture of a person when talking, how their fingers moved, and what that meant. In some cases you’d think it was nervousness, but when you actually have people who communicate verbally and nonverbal. I learned a new thing about myself, this is something I do. I learned how to communicate with others nonverbal, and not sign language. If you are actually having a conversation with someone and are actually entertained, you’re making eye contact. Not everyone can hear, so what are they doing? Looking at your lips to try and distinguish what they hear versus what they see, yet if there are visuals around, you’re able to point.

I learned different cultures for a specific reason. Sometimes it’s nice to have friends outside of your culture, and try new things. Try understanding your friends through their culture. Culture isn’t just language, it’s foods, clothing, prayer, communication, ways of learning, ways of living. Some cultures marry children as Women at the age of 14, would you believe that? Imagine meeting your soulmate today, who probably isn’t of the same culture as you, and is ready to tell their whole life experiences and show you their culture, and you already have a better understanding. It’s such an amazing feeling!
