What does it mean to be a kid at heart?
I guess this prompt was specifically for me, knowing I love children. Being a kid at heart means still having the tendency to be a kid, do kid things such as crafts and things you may have wanted to do, but still maintain that adult attitude when necessary. Sometimes this comes from a place in the mind where you may not have been able to do the things that you should have been able to do as a child. So now that you’ve become older, you spend on the things you wanted as a child, you do the things you wanted to as a child, you go and visit places you wanted to as a child to suppress that inner child.
Some people are bold enough to express their inner child loudly. I would like to use myself as an example when I say this. I loved babies and kids, so I chose to have my own classroom in a preschool working with 2-year-olds and up. My inner child immediately came out because that’s where they’re more intertwined with their gross motor skills, they want to paint, play in clay, and sand. Yet, there also is a time to learn. Our songs that rhymed, and notified of certain timings of the day made me happy as well. For them to see that it was sincere and from the heart, encouraged them to do the same. It encouraged them to listen, to want to do better, and to teach others the same.
In connection with this post, this is how Literaturebyjessc started. I was working with the youth doing blogs on how the youth wanted their community back and were taking steps to do so. Youth centers had been down, or replaced by apartment buildings, so they found places to still be a kid, and that’s what took my heart the most. During my time, we didn’t have to fight to have our community, yes I’ve experienced action, but I played double-dutch, hopscotch, and many other games that should have still been going through generations. So as a member of the SmrtGrlzClub, I vowed to help and inspire others, and that’s what I am going to do, by the way, wanna be a kid at heart, but empowered? Join the SmrtGrlzClub!
