I Still Play…

Daily writing prompt
What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

Generations have forgotten when you used to be able to get four things for a dollar. We forgot that it costs 0 dollars to have fun. We forgot that on hot days, we played with the water out of the fire hydrant, we played double dutch, four squares, tag, hide and go seek, heads up, thumbs up, just to name a few. These are the old things that I don’t own but still play today as an adult. Everything doesn’t have to be an accessory, memories are just as old as those. We are brainwashed by the new things that come out over top of the old if that makes sense. So for example, when Apple products first came out they started with a small iPod nano and then kept upgrading from there. Apple forced their old products not to be able to do what the new products could do, allowing us to forget our memories each time we upgrade or update. I stopped buying the newest Apple products because mine all work just fine, and what one product won’t do, the next will.

If I could go back and be a kid again, I would. I would relive every moment of my Bratz doll head, my toy chest with thousands of toys I got that I never really played with so much. I don’t even remember what happened to that toy chest to be completely honest with you. I can tell you that I still live my younger days, today. That is the oldest necessity I have (my childhood), and that still applies to my daily life. This is why I’m so involved with children, and the community. I want them to stop hanging around the wrong crowd in the streets because that’s what we are accustomed to, I want to be the change to a family’s life and possibly save a child or children. I notice when I am dealing with kids, I am happy the most because they are happy. Even as a preschool teacher, I loved to see my children grow in different ways each day, whether it be making patterns, counting, or learning how to write their names. It was the effort that counted the most because parents would tell me a lot of the things my children did with me, that they didn’t do at home. It was a proud moment for me, even dealing with the Smrtgrlzclub, watching these girls becoming entrepreneurs at such a young age instead of being into make-up and things that other children are into that they shouldn’t be. It makes me so proud that they set such a great example, I became a member myself and signed my little cousin up to redirect her focus and energy. I must say, I am proud of the way she has changed, and the efforts she puts in to help with her family and others. This is the way a child should live, and this is also the child within me. So the oldest thing I own that I still use daily, is my childhood.
