Meeting Jess 💜

Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

A few years ago, I was working two jobs. Blaze pizza during the day, and UPS overnight. The COVID pandemic had hit hard, only essential workers were really working, and that was me. One of my jobs was short-staffed, and I was literally doing everything from taking orders to making the food to accepting payments. Keep in mind, we had doordash and Grubhub orders that were in high demand because you weren’t able to go to restaurants and sit. People were scared of the slightest touch to catch a sickness.

Anyway, one day I just so happened to be by myself while everyone else was hardly working, laughing, and on their phones. This one customer came up, and the customer is always right as we should all know in business. The goal is to keep all customers satisfied. Upon placing your order, you must give a name to be called out for your order. Ironically, this woman’s name was Jessica. She was so calm, and so patient with me because she had noticed how hard I was working, she even tried to keep me calm by engaging in a different conversation that had nothing to do with my job. I finished her meal, and she loved it! She loved my consistency and patience. I proceeded to make the next order, and Jessica had called me over to explain that something was wrong with her meal, so being the great employee that I was, I attempted to see what the issue was, and how I could handle it for her. To my surprise, she had LOVED her meal, wrote me a thank-you card, and handed me $100 for a tip. That just goes to show as I always explain, there is always one person watching. This is why I constantly tell you, that you can inspire someone. She inspired me to know that she cared, she saw my hard work, and to be honest, she kept up with me in all aspects. She lived in the area, and I would see her at stores, and stop and conversate. And yes, our races were different, but that also goes to show you everyone isn’t the same, the stereotypes should come to an end.
