“Have You Ever Performed On Stage?” 🎤

Have you ever performed on stage or given a speech?

Starting my journey as Literaturebyjessc was difficult in the beginning as anything probably would. Nothing comes handed to you easily, “If you want it, you gotta see it with a clear-eyed view,” courtesy of Meek Mill. That’s exactly the motto I live by. I always tell people no matter how hard you think your taste is, push for what you want.

When I first started writing, I didn’t think anyone felt me, or understood my flow because I would always tell my stories in third person, because I didn’t know how to express myself in certain ways. Talking to an empty book just seemed more easier. It got easier as I started sharing my poetry with friends and people who wanted more. It got easier when someone said I should stand up at “Open Mic Night”. “Those people wouldn’t understand me,” I thought to myself. Until I finally went up to recite, and I messed up. I thought it was the end of it all right then and there, but I cracked a joke with regards to my nervousness, and took another shot. I didn’t know expect for everyone to understand as the poem rotated from third person to me actually talking about myself. In the end, it was a big clap, a stand up one at that. Then I started getting recognized and asked to revist. Unfortunately, I never got the time to revist as the person that took me had passed away, and I lost all courage to do so.

A resident of my city (Keita) was also deeply engaged in what I was doing and saw that I had potential. Not only was she going for herself, but she didn’t forget about others, and that’s what made her so amazing. Guess what? I messed up right in front of my own city, but what did they do? Clap, cheer me on, and told me everything was gonna be alright, and I started over. In the end, I received standing ovations, and more love than I ever expected. Would I go on stage again? Absolutely. Just because you fail one time, two times, or even three, does not mean you quit. 😉
